Job Description:

The Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology is seeking an Assistant Professor to provide patient care along with instruct and mentor current medical students, residents, and fellows within the discipline of gastroenterology. The Division of Gastroenterology provides services to the community of NW Ohio and SE Michigan. Within our state-of-the-art facility, providers are supplied with some of the most cutting-edge endoscopic equipment in the region as well as a dedicated clinical support team. The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences actively engages in research and educational opportunities to advance the study of gastroenterology and treat even the most complex gastrointestinal diseases.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Gastroenterology (GI) healthcare team to provide patients with GI medical care services within the standard of care for GI patients.
  • Round with the GI team, including APPs, Residents, Medical students and Fellows.
  • Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for.
  • Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
  • Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up to date before prescribing medication/treatment.
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Record complete, timely and legible medical records.
  • Participate in the teaching programs of the Department of Medicine, the College of Medicine, and the University.
  • Participate in service assignments of importance to the Department of Medicine the College of Medicine, and the University
  • Participate in research trials that align with the goals of the Department of Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MD or equivalent required: board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine: Current license in the state of Ohio required; Fellowship trained in gastroenterology.
• Must meet all the institutional requirements for appointment to Assistant Professor.
• Ability to successfully teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Experience in collaborating with healthcare professionals to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced knowledge of Gastrointestinal Motility disorders
• Extra-training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
