Summary
Full-time non-tenure track junior faculty position to provide oversight of the medical student research program and training for students in research. Collaborates with faculty, clinical partners, and institutional leadership to foster a culture of scholarship, expand research opportunities, and enhance the academic mission of the medical school through student engagement in research and scholarly dissemination. Facilitates scholarly productivity resulting in peer-reviewed publications, manuscript development, and regional and national conference presentations.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Teaching and Clinical Service: Develop a series of lectures and workshops to train students in research. While these will be directed at preclinical medical students, they will be open to students across the university.

Service: Active participation on college and university committees as appropriate. In addition, membership and participation in state and national professional organizations is strongly encouraged. Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities.

Research: Responsible for developing, implementing and managing research opportunities that promote student scholarly activity and dissemination of research findings. Mentors medical students across all phases of undergraduate medical education (M1-M4) in research design, project implementation, data analysis, scientific writing, and presentation preparation. Collaborates with COM Student Affairs and with the office of the Vice President for Research in advising medical students about research opportunities.
Facilitates medical student participation in institutional research symposia and external scientific meetings, supporting the preparation and submission of abstracts, posters, and oral presentations.

Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Doctoral degree in a health-related field (M.D., D.O, Ph.D.)

Experience:
  • Eligibility for a faculty appointment at the Instructor level.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting and disseminating scholarly research.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring medical students in research and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in helping students to navigate the peer review and publication process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about options for managing publication costs.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an academic setting.
