The Maintenance Repair Worker 2 performs a wide range of skilled maintenance and repair duties across campus buildings and systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, and general facility upkeep. This position supports daily campus operations by responding to routine maintenance needs as well as emergency situations related to building systems, weather, and other operational issues. Ideal candidates are dependable, mechanically inclined, and committed to delivering quality service in a collaborative environment. Starting Pay Rate Range: $19.00 – $21.44, commensurate with experience.

Summary
Perform a variety of tasks in maintenance of buildings and equipment, to include emergency situations related to campus operation, mechanical, electrical, weather or other as needed.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
HVAC Maintenance and Repair: Replace and maintain various HVAC equipment such as heating lines, thermostats, heaters, air conditioners, air handlers, centrifugal chillers and steam boilers; clean and perform minor installation of same; adjust and replace belts on motors and other drive equipment as required.

Electrical Work: Perform electrical work for the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical power systems, both inside and outside, building wiring, protective devices, breakers, switches, panels, fuses, controls, and related wiring devices.

Plumbing Maintenance and Repair: Replace, repair and maintain various plumbing equipment such as water and sewage lines, sinks, faucets, toilets, showers and pipes; perform minor installation of same; open plugged drains; check pipes for leaks; replace, repair and maintain pipe covering insulation; lubricate pumps and valves; and change filters and motor couplers.
Chemical Testing and Maintenance: Perform chemical testing as required to maintain boiler and cooling equipment.

Painting and Maintenance: Paint fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs, equipment and furniture as required.

General Maintenance: Perform routine replacement and maintenance of light bulbs, ballasts and fixtures; repair extension cords and install temporary wiring as required. Perform custodial and grounds-keeping duties, as required; repair food service and custodial equipment as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license.
  • Some experience working with lower voltage electricity (house wiring), understanding of basic HVAC equipment, experience with house or light commercial plumbing and carpentry skills.
  • Ability to use basic mathematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Knowledge and experience in the use of hand and power tools and welding equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional education in the trades.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize applicable tools and equipment necessary for the job, as well as other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, sit; talk; and hear. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

Working Conditions: Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise, air pollution and heights. May involve exposure to chemical substances, hazards and moving parts of machinery. Work schedule is subject to change in accordance with the University’s needs and/or the result of weather demands. Call-ins may be mandatory based on University needs.
