Summary
The Medical Director of the Certified Mental Health Assistant Program provides clinical perspective to the curriculum of the Certified Mental Health Assistant (CMHA) program. The Medical Director will assist the Program Director in developing/maintaining the curriculum, developing/maintaining admission / progression / graduation standards, coordinating and teaching pre-clinical classes and coordinating clinical rotations all aimed at achieving and maintaining accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission and producing clinicians who practice the highest standard of evidence-based medicine.
This is a full-time non-tenure track appointment. Faculty rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Administrative Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Active participation in the Program Advisory Committee. Assist with recruiting clinical sites for the program and participate in regular contact with all entities participating in student education. Advocating to local and regional hospitals, as well as health professions organizations, about the NEOMED Program and the Certified Mental Health Assistant profession. Assist with recruitment and interviewing of program faculty and students. Assist with metrics required to maintain accreditation. Represent the program at professional and organizational events. Support, as required, recruiting efforts by the Director of Admissions.
Teaching and Service Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Instructing students in the classroom and clinical setting. Assist in the development and constant analysis of the didactic and clinical curriculum of the program to ensure standards of medical knowledge are being met and there is consistency of educational experiences across clinical rotation sites. Assist with assessing student performance in the classroom, and clinical experiences.
Active participation on college and university committees will be required and assigned. In addition, membership and participation in state and national professional organizations is strongly encouraged. Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of an accredited program of residency training in Psychiatry
  • Current unencumbered Ohio License to practice medicine
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry
  • Current DEA license
  • Have the requisite knowledge and skills to administer the clinical/academic aspects of the program
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching students or residents
  • Teaching experience in a university-based undergraduate or graduate medical education
  • Coordinating the activity of and supervising clinicians
  • 10 years of clinical experience
