Position Summary Information
Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Conduct and Capp Administration serves as a member of the Office of Student Services. The incumbent reviews, investigates, processes, adjudicates and responds to inquiries regarding alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct, Student Honor Code, Hazing policies and other University policies by students and student organizations. The Assistant Director provides administrative support of the Committee on Academic and Professional Progress (CAPP) -related responsibilities including but not limited to scheduling CAPP meetings, preparing CAPP decision letters, providing communication to the CAPP committees and chairs, and managing the Leave of Absence (LOA) and Petition to Return (PTR) processes.
The Assistant Director organizes and facilitates educational outreach, training, and awareness regarding students’ behavioral responsibilities as members of the University Community and administers a student conduct process that is educational and fair-minded by serving as the primary investigator for allegations of student conduct and as a hearing officer.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
CAPP Administration: Provide administrative support of CAPP-related responsibilities including but not limited to scheduling CAPP meetings, preparing CAPP agendas, minutes, decision letters and student files, providing communication to the CAPP committees and chairs including document maintenance and distribution, report development and/or submission as applicable, and logistics where required. Manage the Leave of Absence (LOA) and Petition to Return (PTR) processes to ensure timely processes for approval of students leaves and returns in collaboration with the CAPP chair.
Student Conduct Management: Assist with management of daily operations of Student Conduct by adjudicating cases, serving as the primary investigator, assisting with the oversight of operations for informal and formal hearings and supporting the Student Conduct Hearing pool. Administer a student conduct process that is educational, fair-minded, timely, caring and grounded in the ideal of promoting holistic student development through restorative justice. Investigation may include, but is not limited to, conducting interviews with witnesses, collaborating with University and/or local law enforcement, reviewing surveillance footage, and drafting reports regarding the investigations. Maintain conduct records and database software to ensure privacy of records and adherence to FERPA. Recruit and train members of the Student Conduct Hearing Board pool as well as others who aid the student conduct process as support persons, witnesses, and complainants. Recognize and refer all Title IX-related and/or cases alleging discrimination as appropriate.
Student Success: Maintain effective relationships and processes that contribute to students’ academic and personal success (e.g., the Counseling Center, College Asst/Assoc Deans of Students, University Police, Registrar and VPAA office). And serve on Department, Division, and University program initiatives and committees.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in College Student Affairs, Higher Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Counseling or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX, Cleary Act, FERPA, VAWA and other EEO federal statutes important to higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in student affairs in a higher education setting with disciplinary processes and Title IX Experience conducting administrative investigations.
  • Knowledge of higher education, student development, and university environments.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment.
Department Specific Information
Starting salary range $53,650-$63,486, commensurate with experience.
