Position Summary Information
Summary | This Assistant Director, Area Health Education Center (AHEC) plays a key role in advancing the university’s mission to promote health and address workforce shortages in areas of need. This position supports the strategic leadership and daily operations of regionally focused pipeline programs that emphasize primary care, interprofessional education, and community engagement. The Assistant Director collaborates with NEOMED departments and four AHEC regional centers to implement high-impact educational programs, student services, and community-based experiences. |

Principal Functional Responsibilities | Program Development and Implementation: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of AHEC educational initiatives such as the AHEC Scholars Program, MEDCAMP, and other student-facing pipeline programs. Ensure programs align with NEOMED’s academic objectives and federal/state AHEC goals, with an emphasis on rural health, primary care, and interdisciplinary training. This includes managing both in-person and virtual program components. Student Support and Engagement: Provide academic and professional development support to students participating in AHEC programs. Advise students, coordinate onboarding and tracking systems, and serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and preceptors. Foster student engagement, retention, and success in medically underserved settings. Administrative Operations: Manage day-to-day administrative operations of the assigned AHEC functions. Responsibilities include scheduling, documentation, logistics, and communication related to regional center activities. Organize partner meetings and ensure all program operations meet institutional and funding compliance standards. Financial and Grant Administration: Support the financial oversight of AHEC program budgets, including monitoring expenditures, processing reimbursements, and ensuring regulatory compliance for federal and state funding. Collaborate with NEOMED’s Grants Accounting Office and program leadership to support budgeting, financial tracking, and sub-recipient documentation. Reporting and Program Evaluation: Responsible for collecting and analyzing program outcome data and contributing to the preparation of internal and grant-required reports. Work with statewide evaluators and institutional stakeholders to ensure timely submission of performance metrics and assist in ongoing quality improvement and strategic planning efforts. Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. |

Physical Requirements | Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment. Ability to travel regionally and to the national conference. May be required to work occasional evenings or weekends to support program activities. |
Department Specific Information | Starting salary range $53,650-$56,000, commensurate with experience. |
