Position Summary Information
Summary
This position drives the leadership and growth of AHEC programming at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and across consortium centers in Akron, Canton, Cleveland, and Youngstown. It leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of the AHEC Program, manages cost-center budgets for federal and state funding across all four centers and provides hands-on guidance to ensure center success and impact. The role actively strengthens NEOMED’s pipeline and workforce initiatives and fosters high-level collaboration across NEOMED’s academic and administrative units to strengthen community partnerships, optimize resources, and position AHEC as a critical force in shaping the future healthcare workforce.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Program Development and Evaluation: Support the development and management of the AHEC Point of Service Maintenance and Enhancement (POSME) five-year award, focusing on strengthening program capacity through region-wide goal setting, evaluation, and community-based training initiatives that emphasize primary care, interdisciplinary education, and public health career exposure.
Administrative Oversight and Center Coordination: Provide leadership and oversight to the Akron-Region Interprofessional, Canton Regional, Cleveland, and Eastern Ohio AHEC centers, directing educational programming, ensuring compliance, and monitoring evaluation efforts. Responsibilities include regular site visits, quarterly board meetings, monthly director meetings, and coordinating center participation in programs like MEDCAMP.
Financial and Regulatory Management: Manage federal and state funding across the Program Office and four AHEC centers, overseeing budgets, ensuring 1:1 non-federal match compliance, processing reimbursement requests, and maintaining regulatory standards. The Director also secures funding for initiatives such as MEDCAMP through state dollars and tuition revenue.
Institutional and Community Engagement: Build partnerships within NEOMED and the broader community to expand pipeline initiatives, support service-based career pathways, and place students in rural and underserved areas. Additionally, the Director contributes to NEOMED’s curriculum, represents AHEC programs at key meetings, and recruits volunteer faculty to enhance program activities.
Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Behavioral Sciences, or Education.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in administration, budget management, and community-based program development.
  • Proven success in leading large-scale projects and securing program support.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis and reporting.
  • Eligible for appointment to the teaching faculty at the institutional level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership in managing health education programs, including development and evaluation.
  • Expertise in managing federal and state funding, budgets, and compliance.
  • Experience with community-based health training and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Proven ability to oversee multiple program centers and conduct evaluations.
  • Strong in building institutional and community partnerships for workforce development.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment. Ability to travel for conferences, state, regional, and center meetings as necessary.

Department Specific Information
Starting Salary Range: $76,006 – $85,000, commensurate with experience
