Position Summary Information
Summary
This is a full-time tenure track faculty position with primary teaching and research responsibilities within the Bitonte College of Dentistry (COD) and some responsibilities in the College of Medicine (COM). The position requires understanding and oversight of contemporary curriculum delivery, content development, evaluation and performance outcomes, and the integration between teaching in the clinical and basic sciences. Teaching will concentrate on physiology and pathophysiology as it relates to oral health. Teaching in other disciplines may also be assigned. Primary research responsibilities are in broadly defined oral health and physiology. Areas of possible focus include mucosal repair and regeneration or tooth and bone biology. Ideally, research interests complement existing research strengths at NEOMED.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Teaching: This faculty member will make a significant contribution to the educational programs, eventually including education leadership. Educational activities will relate to oral health. Current needs include renal physiology, pathophysiology, and biochemistry for dental students. They will also make positive contributions to the teaching and learning environment through participation in committees related to education. Teaching assignments are managed by the department chair, with input from the deans of the colleges and this will ensure that the bulk of educational activities take place in the College of Dentistry and supports the strategic plan of the university in order to meet a need of the University and in order to be compliant with NEOMED’s workload plan. The faculty member will be evaluated annually and the colleges will provide input on these reviews. Evaluating the success of teaching contributions is mostly based on student achievement, and student and peer evaluations.

Research & Scholarly Activity: This faculty member will establish a research program in broadly defined physiology and cell biology of the oral cavity. Areas of possible focus include mucosal repair and regeneration or tooth and bone biology. Research interests should complement existing research strength at the university, such as those of the Research Focus Areas. Research, scholarly pursuits, and service responsibilities will be evaluated by your Department Chair and may be adjusted during the annual evaluation and performance plan process.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a terminal degree in a relevant field or specialty, such as Ph.D. or D. D. S.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in undergraduate, graduate, and/or dental/medical student teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching Experience and Expertise: Experienced educator with experience in curriculum and course development and implementation. Contribute to the teaching and research missions of the department. Interested in educational innovation and up to date on contemporary educational approaches. Openness to new educational approaches.
  • Research and Scholarship: Track record of research/scholarship. Able to contribute to the research/scholarship mission of the department and able to mentor students, fellows, and faculty as appropriate.
  • Collaborative: Can work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students at the college and the university.
  • Humanistic Environment: Committed to building a humanistic culture/climate within the college and to fostering student success.
