Position Summary Information
Summary
The Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education is a senior administrative role responsible for the leadership, development, and management of the medical education program. This position serves as a member of the College of Medicine’s leadership team, including the Dean’s Advisory Group, supervises the Associate Deans for medical education, engages collaboratively with College and University leadership, and serves as the administrative liaison to the Curriculum Committee and the course directors. This role requires a visionary leader with a strong background in medical education, curriculum development, and faculty management and strong interpersonal skills to advance the institution’s mission of delivering high-quality medical education and training.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the strategic vision for the medical education program. Collaborate with other senior leaders to integrate medical education with the institution’s overall goals. Foster a culture of academic excellence and lead curriculum continuous quality improvement efforts.
Curriculum Development and Oversight: Oversee the design, development and delivery of the medical school curriculum and ensure that curriculum delivery is of high quality in a consistent, cohesive, and integrated manner. Ensure that the curriculum meets accreditation standards and incorporates the latest advancements in medical science and education. Foster the development of interprofessional education within the curriculum. Promote innovative teaching methods and technologies. Monitor curricular outcomes, lead or guide associated quality improvement efforts as appropriate and participate in the quality improvement efforts of the CQI committee. Lead a program of assessment and evaluation, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Curriculum Data and Assessment, that includes individual courses, curricular segments, phases of the curriculum, and the overall curriculum. Ensure comparability and compliance with university, LCME, and other requirements across the MD curriculum. Ensures systems integrate metrics needed for LCME mandated monitoring in collaboration with Assistant Dean for Curriculum Data and Assessment. Serve in a teaching capacity in areas of expertise and as needed by the College.
Faculty Effectiveness: Work in conjunction with individual faculty, department chairs and the Executive Director of Faculty Development and the Institute for Teaching Effectiveness to ensure the quality and effectiveness of faculty teaching in the College of Medicine. Monitor faculty success, recommend and monitor outcomes of faculty development interventions when appropriate. Oversee the tracking and reporting of individual faculty outcomes to chairs for use in their annual review process of departmental faculty. Collaborate with department chairs to match faculty with teaching and curricular leadership opportunities.
Accreditation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and standards. Serve as content expert for LCME standards related to curriculum and the learning environment. Prepare for and participate in accreditation reviews and site visits. Monitor and address any issues related to accreditation and regulatory compliance.
Research and Scholarship: Encourage and support research in medical education and related fields. Promote scholarly activities, educational innovations and research among faculty and students.
Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the operating and course budgets for the medical education program. Allocate resources effectively to support educational and operational goals.
External Relations: Represent the institution in external forums related to medical education. Build and maintain relationships with other medical schools, healthcare organizations, and community partners.

Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • MD, DO, or Ph.D. with decanal experience in medical education from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be eligible for faculty appointment.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in medical education administration, curricular development and implementation.
