Position Summary Information
Summary
Maintains the veterinary care program relationship between NEOMED and its academic and hospital partners. Performs the duties of the Attending Veterinarian (AV) for NEOMED consortium partners and acts as the AV for NEOMED in the absence of the NEOMED AV.

This is a part-time position working an average of 20 hours per week.

Pay Grade: 11
Location: Rootstown, OH
Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) Serve as the Attending Veterinarian (AV) and clinician for academic and hospital partners of NEOMED that maintain animal care programs.
2) Serve as AV member of partner Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees, including providing veterinary review of animal use protocols at partner institutions.
3) Coordinate interactions between the NEOMED CMU and partner animal care programs.
4) Represents partner institutions animal care programs to NEOMED
5) Participates in design and development of physical and virtual space suitable for partnership agreements on the NEOMED campus
6) Provides after hours, weekend, and holiday veterinary coverage for NEOMED and partner institutions animal populations in consultation with Director / Executive Director, CMU
7) Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education/Degrees:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited college of veterinary medicine.

Licensure/Certifications:
  • Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine;
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Ohio;
  • Valid licensure to acquire, prescribe and use controlled substances by the Drug Enforcement Administration of the Department of Justice, including Practitioner license for prescription of formulated compounds;
  • Accredited in Category II of the National Veterinary Accreditation Program.

Experience:
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience:
    • a) as a director, associate director or equivalent leadership role in a comprehensive research animal related venture;
    • b) consulting and advising entrepreneurs and startup companies with a focus in pre-clinical animal studies;
    • c) designing, costing, planning, and execution of animal-based studies; and
    • d) as a clinical research animal veterinary practitioner.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a university setting.

Preferred Qualifications
Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 70 pounds and handle a broad variety of research animals.
