Position Summary Information
Summary
Full-time lab manager position, reporting to the Principal Investigator, Brett Schofield, Ph.D. Laboratory investigates brain circuits associated with the sense of hearing. Responsibilities include: contributing to planning of experimental strategy, histological processing; optimization of staining protocols, management of laboratory animal use, training new laboratory personnel, overseeing laboratory management and records.

Pay Grade: 8
Starting Salary Range: $46,300 – $54,788, commensurate with experience
Location: Rootstown, OH

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) Experimental design, scheduling of procedures, training new personnel
2) Histological processing
3) Lab ordering, maintenance, record-keeping, compliance documentation
4) Data collection and analysis
5) Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education/Degrees:
  • MA/MS in field related to biology or psychology, or equivalent experience

Experience:
  • At least 5 years of research experience.
  • Significant experience with:
  • Small animal handling
  • Histology
Key Skills, Personal Characteristics, and Key Competencies
  • General laboratory experience
  • Experience with histological processing the sense of
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Technical dexterity
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail/Excellent observational skills
  • Being very punctual
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in electron microscopy preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
