Position Summary Information
Summary | This is one of two full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology of the College of Medicine (COM). Fifty percent of the effort will be dedicated to research in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Basson, incoming Dean of the College of Medicine. Research areas of focus include drug development toward GI mucosal wound healing and the role of Schlafen 12 in epithelial cancer biology. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the basic medical sciences and their integration with clinical sciences. The position requires understanding of contemporary curriculum delivery in an active learning environment. Service activities (Committee work) will constitute part of the effort percentage. All responsibilities will be evaluated by the Department Chair and may be adjusted during the annual evaluation and performance plan process. TEACHING: The faculty member will contribute to the educational programs of the University and these will focus on integrating basic medical and clinical sciences with an emphasis on the broadly defined biomedical sciences, especially physiology, microbiology, immunology, or biochemistry. Contributions to the teaching and learning through program development, course leadership, and curriculum committee participation are expected in the medium term. The effort requirement for teaching and education leadership is 40% of overall effort and will be primarily dedicated to the College of Medicine (COM) curriculum. Evaluating the success of their teaching contributions may be based on student achievement, and evaluations by course/module directors, students, and peers. RESEARCH & SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY: The faculty member will participate in translational research related to the digestive and related systems, with an emphasis on molecular and physiological approaches to animal models. These activities will occupy 50% of the faculty member’s effort. SERVICE ACTIVITY: The faculty member will contribute to service activities, such as committee work, as directed by the department chair. Northeast Ohio Medical University is an AA/EEO Employer. Principal Functional Responsibilities | 1) RESEARCH & SCHOLARLY PURSUITS: Participate in scholarly activities as appropriate. · Assist professional students in biomedical research and/or conduct research on medical education. · Conduct scholarly activity and collaborative scholarly inquiry. · Explore extramural funding opportunities, write and submit proposals, · Publish peer-review papers. The overall effort dedicated to research and scholarship is [50%]. 2) TEACHING & SERVICE: Participate in the education of medical/professional and graduate students in the integration of basic and clinical biomedical subjects, contributing to direct teaching needs and in time, educational infrastructure development. Contribute to the following: · Deliver basic and clinical medical science content using innovative and effective techniques to engage students and enhance learning., e.g., by means of active learning modalities including peer instruction and problem-based learning, and development of modules using multimedia · Link course content to established learning objectives · Participate in activities that assure content is horizontally (within the course and between courses in the same semester) and vertically (across semesters and years) integrated. Collaborate with clinical faculty to ensure course content appropriately emphasizes the content relevant to professional practice · Support and actively participate in the mission of the department, College of Medicine and University by serving on department, College, and University committees as deemed appropriate. Provide service to the profession. Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities. |

Must be able to use laboratory tools and equipment safely and effectively, and to instruct others in these tasks. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk, hear, stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. |
