Position Summary Information
Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of the Learning Center, and in collaboration with the College of Graduate Studies, the Writing Center Specialist, SLL (Second Language Learners) will assist in implementing the Writing Center pilot program that began in February of 2022, for the University. In this part-time and temporary position, the employee will assist in developing resources and facilitate writing consultations for students and faculty, document each consultation session, work with the Writing Center Specialist to develop writing workshops, evaluate student needs and satisfaction with services, implement assessment materials for quarterly reports to the President’s Office, work with Second Language Learner (SLL) students providing and overseeing individual and group tutoring services, implement services that focus on the development and improvement of English, reading, and writing skills, especially with respect to curriculum vitas, letters of intent, personal statements, research writing, abstracts, poster creation, and academic writing. This position will hold asynchronous—online tutoring sessions, synchronous—Zoom tutoring sessions, in-person tutoring sessions, and phone tutoring sessions. Additionally, this position will oversee various workshops and events for the Writing Center, with an emphasis on SLL support.

This is a part-time position working an average of 20 hours per week.

Start Salary Range at 0.5 FTE: $20,578 – $29,312
Location: Rootstown, OH
Principal Functional Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with students and faculty, with an emphasis on Second Language Learners and their development to facilitate a conversation about the writing process. Help writers learn to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses and to learn strategies to improve their writing at all stages of the writing process. Participate in co-curricular development and strive to meet the curricular needs of our students in their learning outcomes. (50%)
  2. Create and facilitate resources and events, in collaboration with all NEOMED colleges and stakeholders, related to writing collaboration and curriculum presentations; including managing and updating the office’s Canvas site. (30%)
  3. Collaborate with faculty development staff to create workshops and resources for synchronous and asynchronous engagement. (10%)
  4. Engage in assessment of program offerings and student/faculty satisfaction and utilization of services. (5%)
  5. Perform other duties as assigned (5%)
Qualifications
Education/Degrees: Master’s degree in Composition, English, Rhetoric, Fine Arts or a closely related field.

Experience: Must have two years of related professional experience in college teaching and administration and/or Writing Center development. Three or more years’ experience preferred.

Preferred: 1-2 years of supporting students who identify as Second Language Learners (SLL).

Physical Requirements
General office environment. Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
