Position Summary Information
Health and Wellness within NEOMED Clinical Services is responsible for enhancing the health and well-being of the NEOMED student community by promoting healthy and sustainable behavioral change and supporting good health practices through education, prevention, collaboration and peer support. The Counselor will provide licensed clinical counseling services to NEOMED students.

NEOMED is hiring one counselor that best meets the needs of NEOMED Clinical Services at level I or II, to be determined by the experience level of the top candidate.

Counselor I
Pay Grade: 8
Starting Salary Range: $46,300 – $54,788

Counselor II
Pay Grade: 9
Starting Salary Range: $52,087 – $61,637

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) Provide time-limited clinical counseling including in-person and tele-counseling services for NEOMED students in groups or as individuals. Offer crisis management services. Identify students with pre-existing and persistent mental illness and refer them to appropriate mental health/medical treatment. Properly document all services and interactions.
2) Coordinate care of clients with their other mental health care professionals.
3) Organize and participate in group activities designed to increase resilience and adaptability of students.
4) Participate in clinical team events and meetings.
5) If Counsellor II, provides clinical consultation and advice to more junior counselors as needed.
6) Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Master’s degree in counseling or related field. Licensed in Ohio as a Psychologist, Social Worker or Professional Clinical Counselor.
  • Counselor I: Minimum of three to five years of experience required in counseling or healthcare-related field; working knowledge of guidelines of the ADA of 1990 and amended, FERPA, HIPAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 required; experience in a college or university setting preferred.
  • Counselor II: Ten years’ or more experience required in counseling or healthcare-related field; working knowledge of guidelines of the ADA of 1990 and amended, FERPA, HIPAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 required; experience in a college or university setting preferred.

  • Excellent counseling skills.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, specifically with presentations in group settings as well as individual interaction.
  • Excellent judgment and tact in dealing with constituencies both internal and external to the school.
  • Remains knowledgeable about current trends in counseling, psychotherapy, and student development by participating in professional development and obtaining Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as required by the state licensing and regulatory boards.
  • Maintains the quality of counseling services through on-going evaluation of all services.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strategic planning abilities to plan comprehensive programs and services.
  • Ability to work independently and with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Internet, MS Office products, and computerized presentations.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
