Position Summary

This opportunity is geared towards an experienced enthusiastic individual with great people, project management, advancement operations and entrepreneurial skills. Further, the individual should possess a solid understanding of and experience in database management, gift processing, prospect research, reporting and financial tracking. This position, through Advancement will help JumpStart sustainably optimize its services, connections, and capital access for entrepreneurs and help the organization achieve its stated goals. The Manager of Advancement Operations will be accountable for facilitating and coordinating internal teams, resources, and systems to support the planning, organizing, and execution of JumpStart’s fundraising strategy with emphasis on sustainability (revenue generation across diverse aligned sources), operations (system supports and process management) and new/emergent opportunities (project management of strategic options in tech, innovation, and small business services and investment). You should be patient and flexible, ready to take on anything thrown your way. You should be an excellent team leader who can communicate effectively across teams, concisely identify goals, and manage various dynamic, yet strategically aligned projects, programs, and partnership opportunities. Support Advancement Department in continuous improvement of business systems, process, and operations of core support functions to advance the mission of the organization.

Essential Job Functions

  • 70% - Executing Core Operations Management Functions Act as a strategic partner to Advancement leadership by leveraging operational experience, data and analytical insights to define overall departmental objectives and assist with the development and execution of business process and operational activities to support achieving organizational goalsDecision Making ResponsibilityThis role has medium-scale autonomy for decision-making and regularly consults with the Sr. Director of Advancement and other senior-level leaders. Occasionally consults or informs the Board of Directors. Routinely makes decisions that may influence the entire organization regarding strategic alignment and prioritization of emergent opportunities, partnerships, and special projects. Has extensive responsibility for facilitating groups internally and externally to achieve decisions and raising issues that need to be further considered and decided upon by senior management in the organization. This role makes day-to-day work decisions regarding prioritizing and executing projects and other tasks and provides routine guidance and direction to the Advancement Intern. The decision-making authority in this role has influence and direct impact within department boundaries (e.g., expert donor engagement, the application of a system, or reporting requirements for a program).Collaborate across functional areas to gather key insights and data to facilitate internal transparency and effectively communicate the story of the Advancement Departments priorities, progress, and impact across the organization. Work with internal and external stakeholders, understand stakeholder requirements, create project schedules, develop a project management plan, utilize a project management system (TBD), assist leaders with monitoring project outcomes and budgets, ensuring deliverables are within the scope of all engagements, and ensuring deliverables are met or exceeded. Liaise with the LOBs to coordinate startup of new grant projects, renewal of funding, strategic collaborations, and management of Advancement internal operations, support services, and programs.

Support a values-drive culture, inform, and facilitate training for professional development, departmental/systems improvement, ensuring Advancement and others continuously improve in how they operate, how they manage, and how we effectively achieve results.

  • 15% - Database and Gift ManagementCreate, implement, and support standards, guidelines, and tools for the control and use of development data so that data is entered cleanly and can be easily extracted. Provide reports and analysis for Advancement Department on key performance metrics and fundraising efforts. Process, acknowledge, and report all gifts, pledges, and grants.

Liaison to the finance team to ensure accuracy of gift records, revenue coding, deposits, pledge tracking and other financial data for monthly reconciliation.

  • 15% - Partnerships & Special ProjectsSupport startup and or implementation of strategic partnerships with major funders, consisting of intermediary organization functions to advance JumpStart’s mission. Conduct research to identify potential funding partners to ensure organizational success and financial sustainability. Manage and or support annual or multi-year Advancement activities and programs, including but not limited to, Young Leaders Council, Annual Campaign, SUSU, etc.

  • Willingness to live and work in Cleveland.Education, Training and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, major in business, nonprofit management, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, advancement operations, program/project management.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

  • Proficiency in CRMs (i.e. Salesforce, Blackbaud, etc.)

  • A firm understanding of Microsoft Office -Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be proficient in a Windows environment and computerized accounting software.
